Who is eligible to apply for a voucher?

To be eligible to apply to the Program, a person must:

  • Be a veteran (a veteran is a person who is a former member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), including a reservist, with at least one day of continuous full-time service);
  • Have a card issued by the Commonwealth Department of Veterans’ Affair (DVA) (either gold, white or general) or a card/number issued by the Commonwealth Department of Defence (DoD);
  • Be living in Tasmania; and
  • Be participating in an eligible gym or sporting club that requires the payment of an annual fee or charge to participate.
How much can a voucher be redeemed for?

Vouchers may be redeemed for up to $100.

What happens if the activity cost more than $100?

Applicants are responsible for covering any cost above $100.

Are there any conditions on the use of the voucher?

Yes. Vouchers are single use only. Any balance is not redeemable for cash nor available to be used towards the membership of another registered organisation. Also vouchers cannot be used for fees that have already been paid.

Can I use the voucher towards the purchase of uniforms and/or equipment to participate in the activity?

No, vouchers can only be used to subsidise the cost of membership. The applicant is responsible for covering any other costs associated with their participation in the activity.

You can search on the Activity Provider Portal on the Veteran Activity Providers page.

How do I apply if I don’t have internet access?

You may visit your local library and use a computer to submit an online application. Alternatively, you may contact the Veteran Wellbeing Voucher Program for assistance with applications at veterans@dpac.tas.gov.au or telephone on 1800 009 501.

How long do I have to use the voucher?

A voucher must be used in the financial year it was issued. 2022 vouchers may be used up to 30 June 2023.

Can I apply again?

You can apply for one voucher each financial year. 2022 vouchers may be used up to 30 June 2023.  Thereafter vouchers expire on 30 June each year.

What if my gym or sporting club has not joined the Program?

Gyms and clubs can register online and membership is free. More information is available at www.veterans.tas.gov.au.

Veteran Activity Provider

Who is eligible to be an approved Veteran Activity Provider?
  • Sporting Clubs and gyms are eligible to be approved providers.
  • Eligible sporting clubs:
    • are providers of a sport recognised by Sport Australia
    • are affiliated to the relevant state or national sporting organisation
    • charge a membership fee for a minimum six-week sporting activity
  • Eligible gyms:
    • Must have an ABN
    • Have at least one staff member with a Certificate 3 or 4 in Fitness
    • Have Public Liability insurance
How much does it cost to become a Veteran Activity Provider?

The Program is free to join and there are no other fees.

Why would I join the Program?

There are about 10 500 veterans living in Tasmania, many of whom would benefit from joining a gym or sporting organisation for their individual health and social contacts. This is an opportunity to support the veteran community and to grow your membership as we will be actively promoting the Veteran Activity Providers to veterans’ organisations and the community.

How do I join?

You can apply online at Veteran Activity Provider. You will need to provide copies of your insurance Certificate of Currency, a list of staff who have a Certificate 3 or 4 in Fitness, and your ABN.

Sporting clubs will need to provide evidence of incorporation, be a provider of a sport recognised by Sport Australia and be affiliated to the relevant state or national sporting organisation.

How will a veteran use the voucher at my gym or sporting club?

A veteran must present the voucher code when they are paying their registration or membership fees. The code will be like this 23V-UVA-WH7A-I98. Vouchers must be used when paying fees or registration costs. The veteran is responsible for paying any shortfall.

What can the voucher be used for?

Vouchers can only be used to subsidise the cost of membership. A voucher cannot be used for equipment, uniforms, boots etc.

When do vouchers expire?

Vouchers must be used for registration at a club by 30 June 2023 and thereafter by 30 June of each year of the four year program.

How do I redeem a voucher?

Veteran Activity Providers will be able to redeem vouchers through their online account and will be reimbursed in approximately 10 working days.

What do I do if a veteran offers a voucher when they are paying their membership and my business is not a Veteran Activity Provider?

Vouchers must be presented to an approved veteran activity provider within the financial year in which it was issued. Veteran Activity Providers must redeem vouchers at least 14 business days before the end of the financial year in which a voucher was issued.
